Established in 1972 by Michael J. Kimmey, City Haul has been a leader in the intermodal industry for over 35 years. Michael started his business with only one truck that he drove part time and dispatched the rest of the time from the dining room of his family's home. From the beginning City Haul has been a family business, as Michael started the company with the help and support of his wife Karen. His goal early on was simple, to create a local drayage company that offer the best possible service to its customers while treating its employees with the courtesy and respect that they deserve. He was able to accomplish his goal and the company has grown up quite a bit over the years. City Haul currently operates over 30 tractors from its headquarters on Chicago's South Side and has gained a well earned reputation as the gold standard in Chicago area drayage. Many of City Haul's employees have remained with the company for over 20 years. Michael J. Kimmey passed away in 2000 but Karen Kimmey remains President and is still involved in the day to day operations of the business. The second generation has stepped in to take the business into the new millennium and conquer the multitude of challenges that it faces each day. The new generation adheres to City Haul's original code of conducting business in a proactive, not reactive manner.
